When To Visit And Stay With Us!

From long sweltering summer days to crisp sharp winter mornings, a year in Queenstown is a journey through a diversity of colours, temperatures and sensations. Warm evenings bled into the stunning burnt red’s oranges and yellows of autumn. And winter wears a lush white coat which gives way to warm greens, brilliant blue skies and fresh spring golds.

As such, your travels can land you in Queenstown in one of the four vastly different seasons which offer a diversity of activities and sightseeing options.

If we had to box them up and tie them with a neat bow, then we’d draw the lines like this:

Winter – June To August
Average Temperatures: Between 0°C And 8°C.

Cold and dry but with beautiful contrasting colours best describes the wonderful lake and mountain vistas at this time of the year. Anything snow-based tops the activity list during winter in Queenstown. With two ski fields on Queenstown’s doorstep and another three within a stone’s throw, you are truly spoiled for choice. Off the slopes enjoy wining and dining at any number of local restaurants, cafes’ craft breweries or wineries.

Spring- September To November
Average Spring Temperatures: Between 8°C And 22°C

The weather this time of the year can be a little bit unpredictable however the warmer sunshine mixing with the odd showers renders the landscape lush in vegetation and promotes that new season growth. Think lambs grazing in paddocks, blossoming cherry trees, and daffodils! It’s a fun time of the year with soft light, great for photography, and often crisps cool mornings. While we strongly suggest you pack a slightly more diverse range of clothes (and an umbrella) we also highly recommend this time of the year for travelling!

Summer – December To February
Average Summer Temperatures: Between 20° And 30°C

The whole landscape changes with the onset of summer. Mornings are bathed in early morning sunrises and the sunsets stretch well into the evenings as the days are long and warm. This means it’s a great time of the year to get the most out of a day’s worth of going sightseeing and doing activities.

Autumn – March To May
Average Autumn Temperatures: Between 12°C And 25°C

Autumn is a photographers dream season in the Wakatipu. The days are mostly settled, the evenings cool and the leaves turn to burnt reds oranges and yellows painting the landscape with a whole new colour palate. This is a great time of the year for touring the region and taking those super important selfies! Our tip for autumn…. Get out to Arrowtown and enjoy the historic main street lined with trees of gold!
